Television – The Parallel School

Abstrakt

It is widely recognized that school-aged children in most European
countries are watching an average of 2.5 to 3.0 hours of
television every day. If we add the time spent with radio, newspapers,
internet, magazines, and other leisure-time media, the total
amount of time children aged 9-15 spend with media is estimated
to be about four to six hours every day.
This may be a matter of alarm to some teachers and parents
who see students spending less time reading or doing school
assignments. They fear that children will not be involved in a balanced
set of activities that will develop social skills, commitment
to family and Church, and creativity-building hobbies.
